Dear Eggies

Dear eggies,

You guys are so awesome. I’m so proud of how you’ve been accepting the medications, meditations and acupuncture. Your growth spurt is amazing! So I don’t want to scare you because I know you’re all cozy in your little nests, all snuggled in there together but I want to prepare you for what’s going to happen in the next several days. But first I want to tell you to be strong! Don’t be afraid. Good things are going to happen and I know that you will shine!

Tomorrow you’re going to meet a sharp needle. It’s going to poke into your cushy nest and suck you out to the outside world. But don’t be scared because you won’t be on the outside for very long — only for 5 days. First you’re going to chill out in a warm petri dish for a bit but trust that you’ll be under watchful eyes of our embryologist. He won’t hurt you. He’s here to help us.

Soon after you’ve arrived in the petri dish, you’re going to get a little poke. This time it will be a spermy from my husband. You need to accept this spermy and together the two of you will make beautiful things. Welcome the spermy! The two of you will begin to produce cells that will eventually become my baby. You are so special to me already!

A few days after you’ve been making cells (your goal is to produce 6 to 8 cells by the 3rd day!), you’re going to get another poke. The embryologist is going to remove one of those gorgeous cells for testing, but it’s gonna be okay because you are gonna keep making more! You’ll hardly know that lil cell is missing. And I promise, it won’t hurt. And don’t worry about the testing. I know you’ll pass with flying colors!

Two days after your last poke, you’re gonna get sucked up into a little tube and that’s when you’ll know you can start getting excited because soon you’ll be on your way back into my womb — my dark, warm, soft uterus! I’ve been working on making it extra plush in there so I’m positive you’ll be very happy once you return. Once you arrive, you can take some time to get comfortable — maybe like a day or so. And then you better start snuggling in! You’re gonna be in there for about another 8.5 months so pick a good nourishing spot, k?

And just remember — you guys will be in the petri dish for only a few days and then I promise to bring you back inside. Five days is not very long — you can do it! I believe in you! I promise to take the best care of you when you get back. You won’t even remember that you were gone!
