My mom bent over backwards to make sure I understood the value of sleep gowns before the babies were born. So much so that she bought FOURTEEN of them. She was confident from experience (30+ years ago) that sleep gown are the best things ever for nighttime changes. She must have talked to me about them at least 20 times before they were born.
Once the babies were here, we tried them out. My personal opinion: they suck. I hate them! My guys sleep swaddled so I dress them in a onesie underneath and they’re super toasty. A onesie is super easy to unsnap for a quick change. I’ve found the gowns to be rather annoying. It actually takes longer to change them when they’re wearing a stupid gown which just pisses them off. They’ve only worn them a few times but I’m donating them in the move. Hopefully someone else will find them useful.
P.S. They’ve both gained almost a pound in the last week!

i never liked sleep gowns either, one we stopped swaddling we started using sleep sacks, those i love.
Hahaha. I HATED those when I had my little boy… but for some reason, now that I have a tiny girl, they work perfectly and I wish I had more. So funny… maybe I just like the dress look for her, but I swear they work better now. Hmmm.
I never undestood the point of them. With all the wiggling they ended up around her armpits.
Totally agree! And my mom said the same thing so I also received a bunch! My baby boys sleep in onsies as well, also swaddled and then put in a nice cozy cacoon!
Ugh. We got a bunch of them as hand-me-downs and she wore one maybe twice. They must be great for some families, but they were weird for my family.

Have to say I loved them over sleepers when they are babies. I could never snap a billion snaps, in the dark, at 4am and get it right. I, too swaddled, but when the weather got a little cooler, I wanted more than just a onesie. You gotta do what works for you. Oh, and despite the fact that i personally LOVED them, I only owned four (so for twins, maybe 8 would be sufficient – 14 seems excessive)
I completely agree and have about 10 myself in my closet that have never been worn. I think a onesie is easy to snap and unsnap. The gowns always ride up so much and when they don’t I think they are a major pain to lift up. I too will be donating a bunch of never used gowns. Too bad I was so confident I would like them that I washed them all.
